Little Compton, RI (November 17, 2016) - Randal Poirier, ChFC, Financial Planner and Partner with Independence Financial Partners, recently donated 40 Thanksgiving pies to the Little Compton Food Bank to help contribute to the annual Thanksgiving meal baskets that the Food Bank provides to those in need within the local community.

Randal has been a regular supporter of several local Little Compton, RI charities over the last decade and stated, “I feel very fortunate that I am able to give back to my community which has given me much success and an unmatched quality of life over the last 12 years. It’s a great feeling to have made a small impact on the enjoyment of the Thanksgiving holiday for some 40 families within our town.”

Every time I pass a test and get another financial industry license, I take time off to read a book. The last one was journalist Naomi Klein’s This Changes Everything. Klein argues that it is not enough for big investors to divest from fossil fuel and reinvest in the clean tech sector.

These big investors are taking a solid first step; even better would be if they dedicated a share of their investments to projects that go deeper; not just switching from brown energy to green energy but supporting cutting edge projects that are designed to bolster local economies, improve public transit, and otherwise strengthen the starved public sphere. ¹

I make it a habit to leave the office each day for lunch. Typically I sit in my car and eat a salad. I might call a friend or listen to a novel on CD, but I always check my renewable energy portfolios.¹ If a holding is noticeably up or down, I open the accompanying news article on the site. It was with great surprise that I read and re-read a story this week from Benzinga entitled "U.S Solar Installations Top Natural Gas for First Time in History."²

There are movements afoot to promote renewable energy in Rhode Island.

I know because on January 26 I slipped unnoticed out of the office on Jefferson Boulevard and drove to the State House to hear Representative Aaron Regunberg, D-Providence, members of the Energize Rhode Island Coalition, and two business owners introduce a piece of legislation (LC 3475) that would put a fee on carbon emissions and return the revenues to the people of Rhode Island.

Supporters of this legislation say it will “create 1000 new jobs in the first two years, fund renewable-energy and energy-efficiency projects, and provide rebates to residents to help offset increases in energy costs.¹
